The Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has asked that the security agencies should be made to provide a briefing to Parliament on investigations being conducted into high profile reported incidents, which are considered “serious” and are of great public interest.
In a letter dated April 2, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of the Defence and Interior Committee, the Assin South Member of Parliament urged the committee to summon the security agencies – the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), and the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) to appear before Parliament on April 7.
The letter outlined the need for a briefing on three critical incidents.
The first involved a National Security-led operation on February 9, 2025, in Sapeiman, which resulted in the discovery of twelve 20-foot containers filled with gold bars and various currencies.
The second focused on two significant cocaine seizures in March, with a combined value of $470 million.
And the third is on two flights, AirMed Flight N823AM and Cavok Air Antonov An-12B, that landed at Kotoka International Airport from Gran Canaria on March 12 and March 20, respectively, and reportedly departed on March 25.
Rev Fordjour’s request underscored the urgency of the investigations, emphasising the need for security agencies to provide clarity on these matters.
He also noted that the Defence and Interior Committee would offer relevant information to support the agencies’ investigative efforts.
“The purpose of this proposed meeting is to afford the agencies the opportunity to brief the committee and provide updates on investigations being conducted into high-profile reported incidents of serious and urgent public interest,” the letter stated.
Already, President John Dramani Mahama has asked the security agencies to investigate the allegation.
