Bawumia: NLC to be digitised to ensure effectiveness

The Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has assured the National Labour Commission (NLC) of his assistance in improving on their services especially digitising its operations.

He described the commission’s website as “bare bones” and therefore, the commission must be supported to be able it perform its functions effortlessly.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the two-day National Labour Conference at Nkwatia Kwahu in the Eastern Region, Dr Bawumia said he will offer technical support to the commission so as to improve on their operations.

“I visited the commission’s website and it is emaciated as their working condition” Dr Bawumia said.

He assured of the government’s commitment to using social dialogue to resolve labour issues.

“The past few weeks have witnessed strikes and threats of strikes but some progress have been made largely owing to the structures and systems put in place for addressing such challenge and the tolerance of tripartite constituents,” he said.

In a communique issued at the end of the conference dubbed the Kwahu Declaration, participants called the government to constituent a technical committee to review the disparities in the single spine pay structure, inequity salary administration and weak conditions of service.

The Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour Awuah who read the communique stated that the technical committee should be set up by the end of this month and the review should be aligned with the next budget statement.

The conference was attended by organized labour and the tripartite.
