Cash-For-Seat Scandal: Akufo-Addo’s Comments Not Prejudicial – Osafo Maafo

Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Maafo has defended President Akufo-Addo’s comments on the ongoing bi-partisan probe into the cash-for-seat saga insisting the President did no wrong following his response to questions posed to him by Journalists on the matter.

He said the President only gave narrative of the same account given by the Trades Minister, when he[President] queried the Minister on the matter, adding that there’s nothing prejudicial about the President’s comments.

“He has investigated the matter before and he was repeating what he has done and so what is prejudicial about this? The matter came, and he requested his Ministers to give him a report, he investigated and he was telling you what he’s done and the same thing is being carried out. And he did tell us that so far all the things he’s been told is being repeated infront of parliament. It’s something he himself has investigated, nothing to do with what is happening in parliament.” Mr. Osafo Maafo said in an interview with Citi FM.

Although the Adhoc committee hearing the allegations of corruption against the Trades Ministry is yet to put its findings out on the inquiry, President Akufo-Addo has dismissed the allegations and described them as politically motivated and without merit.

Meanwhile, the Executive Director for the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), Sulemana Braimah has criticised the President on the matter saying this was the lowest point as far as the President’s performance is concerned in the event held Wednesday.

“Once there is a bi-partisan committee that is investigating the matter, I think what the President did wasn’t proper. In his own introduction he had alluded to the fact that in the first year of his administration there have been a series of bi-partisan inquiries and that is something that he thought was positive, because he said there was none in the previous regime. And if you say this and then later you try to almost rubbish what is going on this particular matter, we thought that it wasn’t proper at all”
