Expect more rains in the next 2 weeks – Ghana Meteorological Agency
Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMA) has urged Ghanaians to take the necessary precaution as the rains will continue for the next two weeks.
The GMA however says the intensity of the rains will not be as much as it was on Monday.
“People should pay attention to weather forecast and avoid flood prone areas. The rains we are to expect going forward shouldn’t get heavier than what we saw yesterday,” Director at the GMA Joseph Ayisi told Francis Abban on the Morning Starr Tuesday.
Commenting on the floods, a hydro engineer Wife Ametefe also said gutters must be cleared always to allow for easy flow of water.
“With regards to work on the motorway, studies are about to begin. A tunnel from Spintex that crosses the motorway is what caused the floods yesterday. All choked tunnels must be desilted so that the floods we see in some places will be a thing of the past”.
Hours of torrential rains in Accra and Kumasi caused massive flooding in various communities in both towns.
In Accra, both ends of the Tema motorway and the Kwame Nkrumah circle were flooded making the road unmotorable.
It is not regular in Ghana for the rains to fall in October. Many have blamed the current rainfall pattern on climate change.
