Four police officers interdicted for assaulting Tamale residents

Four police officers in Tamale have been interdicted for allegedly assaulting some residents in the Northern Regional metropolis, an official statement said.

The police statement issued on Tuesday (21 September) said the four breached the standard operating procedure of the Service during an operation with NEDCO/VRA officials to arrest persons allegedly involved in illegal power connections.

Images widely shared online show the residents being allegedly whipped by the police officers in question.

“The officers will face a service inquiry, subject to the regulations of the Ghana Police Service,” the statement said.

Apology
“We apologise unconditionally to the affected persons and the general public,” the statement signed by the acting Director-General of the Public Affairs Department of the Ghana Police Service, ACP Kwesi Ofori, said.
