GMA advises doctors to accept postings to rural areas
Dr Frank Serebour, the national president of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has reiterated the call on medical doctors to accept posting to underdeveloped areas in the country.
Speaking to reporters after an annual awards and dinner night he said, “it’s important that we begin to look at other regions that are deprived like Volta and Oti.”
“For us as an association one of the key things we advocate for is that, wherever Ghanaians are is important as doctors we’re also there to serve them,” he added.
The president of GMA in the Volta and Oti regions, Kwaku Appiagyei Boadu Ayeboafoh said doctors who will accept posting in these two regions will be provided an an extra one year allowance as motivation.
For his part, Hafiz Adam Tahir, director, external health cooperation at the Ministry of Health (MoH) speaking at the event on behalf of the health minister said the ministry will implement initiatives for doctors who will accept posting to underdeveloped districts in the country.
Tahir said that the district chief executives (DCEs) will be asked to prioritise good accommodation for doctors who will accept to serve in their jurisdictions.
The MP for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa was recognised with the medical honour of the year.
