Ho water crisis to end by Monday – GWCL

Regular water supply is expected to return to Ho “latest by Monday [August 26],” the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Water Company Limited, Dr. Clifford Braimah has said.

Ho has been battling with an acute water shortage this past week after the pillars holding the 20-inch diameter pipe at Bame in the Ho West District broke.

Giving updates on the Citi Breakfast Show, Dr. Braimah said work to fix the broken down pipelines is close to completion.

“By Saturday, I’m sure some trickles will come in because it has to take time to build the pressure in the pipes,” he said.

The new pipelines are being constructed along a bridge following the Ghana Highway Authority’s blessing, Dr. Braimah explained.

Because the levels of the water got very high, there is no way we can put the pipe back on its normal route so they needed to put it on a bridge and the bridge is 18 years old…it is a weak bridge.”

“If you want to put that big pipe, you need approval from the Highways Authority. Even getting the approval to put it on the bridge was a problem. Now we have to do the actual work and we are hoping that between today and tomorrow, we should have the completion of the work.”
