Kwabena Agyepong applied for his suspension to be lifted – John Boadu clarifies
The General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. John Boadu has disclosed the reasons behind the party’s decision to lift the suspension on their former General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong.
According to him, Mr. Kwabena Agyepong officially wrote to the party on January 5, 2021, appealing for his suspension to be lifted.
He further disclosed that Mr. Agyepong stated the reasons for his appeal in his letter, which was forwarded to the party’s National Executive Committee for consideration.
Kwabena Agyepong was suspended in 2015, along with the party’s former National Chairman, Paul Afoko, and a former National Vice Chairman, Sammy Crabbe for misconduct.
Kwabena Agyepong was found guilty of violating Article 3(d) of the party’s constitution, which requires members to uphold the party’s decisions.
He was also accused of engaging in “unilateral actions and activities without consultation with or seeking authorization from the NEC.”
After the former General Secretary’s suspension was lifted, some Ghanaians have asked why Mr. Afoko and Sammy Crabbe are still on suspension.
Mr. John Boadu, in a Citi News interview, clarified that “With Kwabena Agyepong, he personally applied in writing on January 5, 2021, asking for his current status in the party to be reviewed and also stated what he has done for the party in the past five to six years. So on the strength of that, his application was sent to the National Council of the party and was granted”.
