‘Many are uncomfortable with Christian/Muslim relationship’ – Bawumia

The flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the December 7 polls, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, a Muslim by religion, has explained why Christians are facing persecution and inhumane treatment in other parts of the world.

According to the Ghanaian Muslim Vice president, ‘we are a peaceful country, and we always get closer, so let us keep it that way’.

‘There are many people who are uncomfortable with us Muslims getting closer to Christians, and that is how jihadists and extremists benefit.’, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia,’ revealed.

Some Christians in Ghana are yearning for a Christian president as Ghana goes to the polls on December 7 to elect parliamentary candidates and a president.

During an interaction with the clergy in the Northern Region, Dr. Bawumia stated that the peaceful coexistence between different faiths in Ghana must be continually promoted.

“I don’t think that being a true Muslim means that you cannot get close to Christians. Nor do I see how being a true Christian means you cannot get close to Muslims,” Dr. Bawumia said.

Adding: “Prophet Mohammed instructed Muslims to get closer to Christians among all the religions and faiths of this world. That is what the Prophet Mohammed said, and so I am very comfortable and confident in getting close to Christians.
