Otumfuo to NPP delegates: Choose a candidate who’ll be accepted by Ghanaians

The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has urged delegates in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to be circumspect in their choice of candidate for the 2024 general elections as the party’s flagbearer race heats up.

He said this on Monday (30 January 2023) during a courtesy call on him by former Trades Minister Alan Kyerematen to formally announce his presidential bid and seek his blessings, the Asantehene admonished the party delegates to be circumspect in their decision as any candidate elected when given the mandate by Ghanaians in 2024, will serve not just the party but the country as a whole.

“Your party members must bear in mind that they are not electing someone to lead the party alone but a leader to be decided on by all Ghanaians, put Ghana ahead of the party.”

Otumfuo further advised the former Minister of Trade and Industry to embark on a clean campaign devoid of foul language and should only propagate attainable promises.

“Just as you have been nurtured well, continue as such, do not verbally assault anyone, only propagate what you can do for the country, just deliver what you have for the country.

The Asante Monarch further urged the party members to rally behind anyone who emerges as the flagbearer of the party ahead of the 2024 general elections.

“Whoever your party vote for, give him your support,” Otumfuo said through his linguist.

After he visited the Manhyia Palace, the NPP flagbearer hopeful held a mammoth rally at the Heroes park at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium where he sought the support of delegates and party supporters in the race for the flagbearer position.

“I am here to seek your support ahead of the NPP Flagbearer race … 2024 is going to be the most important election in the history of this country. And I am the best candidate to win the election,” he said as he addressed the crowd.
