Galamsey: Ghana Navy guard Ankobra and Offin rivers

A naval platoon has been sent out by the government to protect the Ankobra and Offin rivers from illegal miners.

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has issued a statement warning that the security agencies will deal ruthlessly with anyone found to have engaged in illegal small-scale mining, also known as “galamsey.”

The ministry further warned that anyone found to have engaged in illegal small-scale mining will be arrested to face the law.

The ministry decided to protect the water bodies after videos emerged on social media of galamsey activities on the Offin River, which prompted the deployment of the officers.
