The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, says almost 600 staff recruited into the ministry and its agencies after the December 7, 2024, general elections are under review with nearly 100 already dismissed and more expected to go.

Speaking at a press conference in Parliament on Monday, March 25, 2025, Mr George revealed that he had authorised the termination of close to 100 workers at Ghana Post earlier in the day as part of an ongoing staff rationalisation exercise.

“Today, I have authorised the termination of a few more at Ghana Post, almost 100, that were done post-December 7. And we’ll continue this rationalisation,” he said.

He described the recruitment situation he inherited as untenable.

“If you are a minister and you take over a ministry that has 3,117 staff in the ministry and its agencies, and you realise that almost 600 of them were recruited after December 7, basically, you cannot expect me to come and inherit such mess and continue with it,” Mr George explained.

He stated that the aim of the exercise is to reduce excess staff numbers and improve the operational structure of the ministry and its agencies.

“I will clean up the ministry, make sure it is lean and efficient, and carry out its work,” he said.

The Minister indicated that every case will be reviewed carefully, and decisions will be taken in line with what he described as good administrative practice.
