Tullow Ghana and its partners have announced a scheduled 16-day maintenance shutdown of the Jubilee oil field, set to commence on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.

The planned works aim to enhance production capacity, upgrade operations, and reduce operational risks in the offshore field.

The maintenance exercise will focus on critical repairs and improvements to the Kwame Nkrumah FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading) vessel. Key activities will include the retooling of essential equipment, leak tests, and facility upgrades to accommodate increased gas export capacity.

The announcement comes shortly after Tullow Ghana successfully completed a 4D seismic survey on both the Jubilee and TEN fields, a move aimed at identifying future drilling prospects and ensuring long-term resource sustainability.

To mitigate the impact of the shutdown on Ghana’s energy supply, Tullow Ghana has reached an agreement with the government to temporarily source gas from the TEN fields during the maintenance period. This arrangement is expected to ensure an uninterrupted gas supply to power producers and industrial users.

Additionally, the shutdown forms part of long-term efforts to extend the operational life of the FPSO and is a precursor to a mini-drilling campaign scheduled for May 2025.

Speaking on the planned maintenance, Jean-Medard Madama, Managing Director of Tullow Ghana, highlighted the company’s commitment to efficient and responsible resource development.

“This maintenance shutdown is a very important step to protect and maintain our field assets and enhance production efficiency at the Jubilee field. It also reflects our role as lead operator of Ghana’s main oil fields, and our commitment to developing Ghana’s resources in a responsible manner that creates value for all stakeholders,” he stated.
