President John Dramani Mahama held the first meeting of his newly constituted cabinet at Jubilee House on Thursday, February 20, 2025, where ministers provided briefings on national security and the economy.
The Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, who addressed journalists after the meeting, said the session was primarily to introduce cabinet members and outline expectations for their roles.

In addition to cabinet members, other ministers attended the meeting, including the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams; Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo; Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Emelia Arthur; and Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie.
Ministers brief the president on security and the economy
According to Mr Kwakye Ofosu, the meeting included several briefings on key national issues.
He said the Minister for the Interior, Minister for Defence, and National Security Coordinator provided an update on the security situation, stating that Ghana remains stable and that security agencies are capable of addressing any existing threats.
He also said Presidential Advisor on the 24-hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development, Mr Goosie Obuadum Tanoh, briefed the president and cabinet on the progress towards rolling out the 24-hour economy initiative.
Mr Kwakye Ofosu indicated that preparations were on course and that a dedicated secretariat would soon engage the public on further details.
The Minister for Finance also presented a report on the economy, which Mr Kwakye Ofosu described as worse than initially expected.
He said President Mahama and his economic team remained confident that proposed policy measures would help stabilise the economy.
The president is expected to address Parliament in the coming days, where he will provide further details on the economic situation and the government’s plans.
