The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken disciplinary action against former Dome-Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo, referring her to the party’s National Disciplinary Committee over recent media remarks deemed to contravene party directives.

A statement issued on Thursday, March 20, 2025, and signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, indicated that Adwoa Safo’s comments, made on the Pulse Show of Joy News, defied explicit instructions issued to all party members to refrain from public discussions likely to cause disaffection.

“As she is aware, the directive explicitly states that all party members must cease discussing party issues that create unrest, negativism, and disaffection in the media and other related platforms,” the statement read. “Her actions are not only in disregard of this directive but also undermine the Party’s efforts to rebuild and move forward.”

The former legislator, who previously served as Deputy Majority Leader and Minister of State in the erstwhile NPP administration, was expected to uphold party discipline and unity, the statement added.

“Her failure to do so not only reflects poorly on her but also in contravention of Article 3(5) of the Party’s constitution, which, among others, enjoins us to promote and defend the good name of the Party,” it further noted.

In light of this, the party has resolved to refer her case to the National Disciplinary Committee for further action.

The NPP has in recent weeks sought to consolidate party unity following its defeat in the 2024 general elections, cautioning members against public utterances that could deepen internal divisions. The latest action signals the party’s firm stance on maintaining internal discipline ahead of its reorganization efforts.

It remains to be seen what measures the Disciplinary Committee will recommend in response to Adwoa Safo’s conduct.
